What happened to my new timing belt ?

I change my timing belt at Pep-Boys today. I didn't change the water pump to save some money. But my car runs rough afterward. Especially when accelerating. Is it because they haven't got the right tension to the belt ? What might be the cause. The engine sounds louder and I felt the slightly more vibration.
