Italian."Bucato a mano" . Why italians call washing ; " Bucato" ?
It is believed to be derived from the Old German verb "Bukon" (to wash with lye). In the old times a solution of warm water and lye (extracted from ashes) was the standard way of washing clothes and fabrics.
