Any good quality paint will smell ok providing you have carried out thorough preparation prior to painting. To get rid of nicotine staining and odour you need to wash down the ceiling walls and wood with a propriety cleaner such as Mangers sugar soap etc, if surfaces are still very stained after this you may need to seal with a stain block sealer befor applying the finishing paint. Sounds like a lot of hard work but should be worth it in the end and it will smell sweet!
